I am a licensed psychologist and marriage and family therapist engaged in private practice in Pasadena since 1988. I have two Ph.D.’s, one in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern California and one in Psychoanalysis from the New Center for Psychoanalysis. I have served as a member of the Board of Directors of the California Psychological Association and as President of the San Gabriel Valley Psychological Association. I am an Expert Reviewer for the State of California’s Board of Psychology and Board of Behavioral Sciences. I teach and lecture widely. I founded Rose City Center (RCC), a non-profit clinic offering psychoanalytic psychotherapy to economically disadvantaged persons, in 2004. I served as President of its Board of Directors through 2014. I currently am Chair of the RCC Training Committee
Scope of Practice & Approach
My current practice consists mainly of Individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy for adolescents and adults. I also specialize in psychotherapy for couples and families. I offer formal psychoanalysis. I run a weekly men’s psychotherapy group. Additionally, I offer psychological assessment services for legal and other professional purposes.
I am guided in my practice not only by my formal training but by the uniqueness of each person who consults me. Before we psychologists “treat” or “assess,” it is incumbent on us to receive each individual as openly as possible. It is equally essential to honor and nourish each client’s humanity and to treat him or her with consideration and empathy.
Your First Visit
Your first session will be devoted to a sensitive and confidential discussion of your concerns. I will provide ideas for intervention. I will also orient you to the treatment or evaluation process, advise you of costs for the services, and obtain your written informed consent before proceeding. A copy of my informed consent form is available here. That initial consultation lasts 45 minutes.
